This is one friend request you don’t want to ignore.

The Social Network: Good shots, clean cut, some sarcastic sardonic humour and we’re good to go!

Directed by David Fincher of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button fame , the film is a slick movement through the development of Facebook and the lawsuit surrounding the site. Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin founded and developed the social site that today boasts more than 500 million members.

The opening scene makes you think that you’re in for a boring next 121 minutes, but I suppose you’ve got to get the emotional shrapnel out of the way. Mark at the outset seems obsessed with getting into one of the prestigious fraternities at Harvard University. He truly believes ( and I gotta agree with him),that it will give him access to people who can accelerate a business idea if you have one. This kind of belief pushes, tugs and pulls the development of firstly fashmash.com and then facebook.com.
The story thereafter starts mapping out the conception, development, money sourced and the big 1 millionth user of Facebook, all interlinked into the lawsuit split between the guys who accuse Zuckerberg of stealing their idea (? Entrepreneurs know the value of implementing an idea rather than just thinking about it), his one- time best friend and business partner, and Facebook.

As a viewer, you feel like you’re rollerblading through great scenes of idea generation, implementation, bottles of beer, loads of coffee and plenty of emotional turmoil to season that mix.

So you’re asking, where does Justin Timberlake fit into all this? Well, he plays Sean Parker – founder of Napster – and someone who would suggest as Eduardo says in the film “ One of the most important changes the company would ever see.”
Justin Timberlake and I never really clicked so I can’t really appreciate his part but he acts out sufficiently enough for the film to move along.
Jesse Eisenberg is super great as the unassuming, quirky eccentricity called Mark Zukerberg, that says hello and doesn’t ask you how you are doing. And Andrew Garfield deftly plays out his role as the business partner Saverin, who funds a friend’s great idea and has to grapple with profiting from the business or his friendship with Zuckerberg. Okay, enough said there.

The sharp pace of the film was enjoyable – it was almost like running through code on the screen; well I suppose it was running code on the screen. And if like me, you enjoy great rave/underground house/electro funk sort of music, then the soundtrack and accompanying music to the scenes does not disappoint! I wanted to get out my laptop right there and start jabbering away.

Why you should watch this movie: You know about the internet, you use or don’t use Facebook, but live on this planet and have heard of it. You definitely want the idea behind the Face.
Why you shouldn’t watch this movie: You don’t use the internet, or have not heard of it, so of course it figures you haven’t heard of Facebook. Take me to your planet! (and we’ll see what we can do about some fibre optic cables)

The Naz Rating: A super cool 9/10! Definite award puller at the Film Festivals around the world!
